Volusia County, FL – FHP says two people died in a two-car accident on I-4 eastbound Monday night in Deltona that closed the interstate for a time. The crash happened just before 10:30 PM on Mile Marker 107 near Dirksen Drive.
Troopers say a 1997 Ford pickup truck was hit from behind by a 2002 Ford Mustang driven by 27-year-old George Justiniano of Deltona.
The pickup truck went off the road when it was hit and into the median, flipping and ending up over the center guardrail. The pickup truck driver and a passenger were ejected and killed. Troopers say neither was wearing a seatbelt. A second passenger was trapped but later freed from the wreck. That passenger was wearing a seatbelt.
The two killed are identified as 35-year-old Ernest Stickle of Springfield, MO, and 21-year-old Shane Fleming of Deltona. Stickle was the driver and Fleming was a passenger.
The passenger who survived is 21-year-old Payton Moose of Deltona. He is in critical condition at Central Florida Regional Hospital.
The driver, Justiniano, is hospitalized with minor injuries. Troopers say the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
