DeLand, FL – A dog is dead following a fire that destroyed a double wide mobile home in DeLand.

The DeLand Fire Department and Volusia County Fire Services were called to the scene at 165 Dover Lane around 11 AM Tuesday, according to a spokesman for the Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association. That’s near the US 17/State Road 11 fork.

All the people in the mobile home at the time were able to get out unhurt before the flames consumed the entire structure. A pit bull was not able to get out in time.

It’s unclear at this time how the fire started, according to investigators.

A woman who called 911 told dispatchers there were people living there who hadn’t paid rent in 3 months and that the fire might have started from a pile of wood soaked with gasoline. She also reported hearing explosions coming from the trailer during the call.

The American Red Cross is assisting the victims.
