Daytona Beach, FL – 2 dogs are dead following a house fire near Daytona Beach Thursday morning.
Volusia County Fire Services was called out to the scene at 1515 Culverhouse Drive around 9:30 AM.
A spokesman with county fire says firefighters from Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and Holly Hill came to the scene because a unit at the closest fire station was in training and not available.
First responders arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from the home and managed to put the fire out a short time later, according to the Daytona Beach Fire Department.
The resident managed to get out without being hurt but the 2 dogs weren’t able to leave because they were locked in a crate, according to officials at the scene.
Investigators think the fire may have started in the garage and spread from there to other parts of the house as well as 2 cars parked nearby and some trees in the backyard.
The garage of the home is completely destroyed, according to DBFD’s Twitter account.
It’s unclear at this time how the fire started.
