Ormond Beach, FL – A fiery overnight accident on US 1 in Ormond Beach has killed one person and hurt another.
The incident happened around 1 AM Monday near the Exxon gas station on the 1600 block of North US 1. That’s near where US 1 meets Interstate 95.
OBPD Officer Keith Walker says it appears the RV was trying to leave the interstate from the southbound side when it ran off the road and exploded after it struck a tree in a nearby Dairy Queen parking lot.
“One person was so badly burned authorities can’t tell yet if the victim is male or female,” Walker added. “People who heard the crash were able to rescue a male subject from the vehicle.”
The man who was pulled from the vehicle suffered 3rd-degree burns and was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire.
OBPD hasn’t identified either of the victims at this time.
