Daytona Beach, FL – Part of Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach is about to look a whole lot different for commuters.

Construction workers plan to take a week to demolition the Bellevue Avenue Bridge that spans over the 4-lane highway and connects Tomoka Farms Road to South Williamson Boulevard.

The bridge itself has been closed for nearly a month to traffic and will remain closed until at least February 2016 as part of the ongoing $255 million project to widen I-95 to 6 lanes between Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach.

Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Olson says motorists need to be on the lookout for well-marked detours throughout that area that should guide you safely through the construction zone.

“Demolition activities will begin Monday night,” Olson added. “Lane closures will be set up starting at 9pm [daily] and the full detour will be in place by 10:30pm. All lanes will be restored by 7:30am the following morning.”

Crews will begin the demolition along the northbound side of I-95 and then switch over to the southbound side, with all the demolition work wrapping up by August 9th.

All travelers going through that area are advised to slow down, especially when workers are on site.

FDOT plans to set up the detours so that I-95 northbound traffic exits at Beville Road/State Road 400 and gets back on at International Speedway Boulevard/US 92 via Williamson.

Those wanting to get on I-95 south will have to go east on US 92 and then head to Beville Road from there.

Eastbound drivers going from Interstate 4 to I-95 north will be directed east on US 92 towards the I-95 interchange. I-95 south drivers wanting to go west on I-4 have to exit at US 92 heading west and catch I-4 from there.

Once I-95 is widened, FDOT plans to re-build the Bellevue Avenue Bridge, adding a 10-foot-wide shoulder and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk.
