Edgewater, FL - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission wants to hear from local residents about the issue of derelict boats here. A meeting in Edgewater on Tuesday, August 11 will take input on the problem here and how to deal with those decaying and often dangerous boats.

The FWC’s Greg Workman says this meeting is one of five around the state.

Workman says often in storms those boats can break free and become a danger to other vessels which are underway, moored or docked. Workman says another danger is when boats or pieces of them are just under the surface of the water and can’t be seen from the surface.

The FWC and other authorities try to track down the owner of those abandoned and derelict vessel to have them pay to remove  the boat. Workman say sometimes that can’t be accomplished due to the age and condition of the boat and the lack of identifying markings or stickers.

The meeting takes place at Edgewater City Hall from 2:30 PM to 5 PM at 104 N. Riverside Drive.
