Palm Coast, FL – The quick thinking of a Palm Coast animal control worker led to the rescue of a kitten trapped between 2 big metal shipping containers.
City officials say a male kitten they’ve since named “Wally” is at Flagler Humane Society after he was found on Tuesday just outside of the Palm Coast Walmart location on Cypress Point Parkway.
City of Palm Coast spokeswoman Cindi Lane says it all started around noon when the Animal Control department got a call from a Walmart customer who could hear a kitten crying just outside of the store.
“Animal Control determined the kitten was stuck between two large storage containers outside the store,” Lane noted. “The hypothesis is that the mama cat accidentally dropped him from a tree branch above the 2 containers.”
Animal Control officers Eva Boivin and Heather Priestap went to the scene to find the cat, but soon ran into trouble, per Lane.
“As the rescue attempt got under way, the kitten stopped meowing,” Lane added. “Animal Control couldn’t figure out where he was.”
In a last-ditch maneuver, Priestap used her cell phone to start playing cat sounds and that caused the trapped kitty to start crying again, according to Lane.
“Within a few minutes, [the] employees used an inflatable device to move one of the large metal storage containers over and retrieve the tiny ball of fur,” Lane stated.
Wally was checked out at Flagler Animal Hospital before going to the Flagler Humane Society.
