Daytona Beach, FL – A black Chihuahua puppy stolen from the area’s largest non-profit animal shelter 11 days ago has been returned to the shelter.
The Halifax Humane Society says the woman who stole “Sharky” surrendered him to the Daytona Beach Police Department Wednesday afternoon.
Sharky made his safe return to the HHS shelter on LPGA Boulevard soon after that, according to HHS spokesman Tyler Stover.
“The person in possession of Sharky confessed to taking him from the shelter,” Stover added. “He is in good health and is once again available to be adopted.”
Stover added that there was an adoption hold in place for Sharky, but the money was refunded after Sharky was stolen and the shelter isn’t sure at this point if the family that wanted to adopt him was still interested in doing so.
Police have yet to identify the woman who took Sharky or say what motivated her to commit the crime.
DBPD Sergeant James Chirco says the incident is still under investigation and no arrest has been made at this time.
Sharky’s return came less than 24 hours after DBPD released security video and an incident report to the media in the hopes of finding him.
