Ormond Beach, FL – A Port Orange woman is locked up again after police say she tried to use her baby to shoplift over $300 in goods and punched a security guard in the face while trying to get away.

30-year-old Ashlie R. Ledoux was arrested around 2:30pm Thursday at the Walmart on 1520 West Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach.

An Ormond Beach Police Department officer was in the immediate area and stopped Ledoux as she tried to leave the Walmart parking lot in a car with her 14-month-old son sitting in her lap, according to the arrest report.

A Walmart loss prevention officer told OBPD it all started when he spotted Ledoux taking at least 19 items – including razors and toothbrushes – as she walked through the store, placing those items in a diaper bag that she then placed under her son as he sat in a child car seat carrier.

Per the report, the Walmart worker stopped Ledoux after she walked past the checkout counters without paying for those items and that’s when she pushed the worker and punched him 3 times in the face, all while carrying the child.

The worker says he managed to get the items and the carrier away from Ledoux, but she managed to run out of the store with the child in her arms and get into the front passenger seat of a green Nissan that was being driven by a man.

The driver of the Nissan tried to leave the scene, but OBPD says an officer spotted the car heading east on Granada and pulled it over around a quarter-mile from the Walmart.

Ledoux initially told OBPD she was attacked by 3 guys at the Walmart, but eventually admitted to stealing the items, per the report. She also admitted to resisting the employee, but only after he grabbed her arms while she was carrying her child.

Ledoux was arrested after Walmart security video backed up the worker’s story, per the report.

Volusia County Jail records show Ledoux has been arrested 4 other times since April 2010 on a variety of charges, including battery, grand theft, driving under the influence, DUI with property damage and battery on a person over 65 years of age.

As of 2pm Friday, Ledoux is held on $4,500 bond at VCJ on charges of felony retail theft, child abuse and robbery.

OBPD’s report did not note if officers have contacted the Florida Department of Children & Families.
