DeLand, FL-Stetson University says it will build the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center on Lake Beresford with a $6 million gift. The center will be home to the rowing team and also house research and water research facilities. Dr. Wendy Anderson, chair of the Stetson’s Environmental Science and Studies Department, says the completed facility will also be big enough to host conferences and education events.
Anderson says the biggest need has been a boat house for crew and for teams that come south to practice and prepare for competition on Lake Beresford in the more temperate Florida winter weather.
Anderson calls the facility “cross-disciplinary”.
Plans are in the earliest stages for the 10-acre site and no groundbreaking date has been set. The building is expected to be open by August 2018.
