Daytona Beach, FL-22-year-old Bridget Anderson of Port Orange remains hospitalized in Oklahoma where she is recovering from an accident that killed a companion as both took part in a charity cycling event. Anderson’s mother posted a photo on Facebook (below) this week celebrating her daughter being able to get out of her hospital bed and into a wheelchair for the first time since the accident.

Anderson and 25-year-old Patrick Wanninkof were hit by a driver on Highway 152 near Elk City, OK on July 30 around 8AM. Wanninkof died at the scene. Both riders were taking part in a “Bike and Build” event where riders go cross country and help with affordable housing projects in cities and towns along the way.
Anderson was airlifted to Oklahoma University Medical Center in critical condition after the accident.
A report by the Oklahoma State Police indicated the driver said she was distracted by her phone at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed yet in the accident and the investigation continues.
