Daytona Beach, FL – A former local high school football star and quarterback at Bethune-Cookman University is behind bars.

The Daytona Beach Police Department arrested Patell L. Troutman around 5pm Tuesday on charges of marijuana possession, conspiracy to sell and deliver marijuana and using a communications device to commit a felony.

As of 1:45pm Thursday, Troutman is held on $10,500 bond at Volusia County Jail. He was previously booked there in April 2013 for driving with a suspended license.

The 37-year-old Daytona Beach resident was fired as head football coach at Port Orange’s Atlantic High School just prior to last season. He never coached a game at the school.

According to the arrest report, 2 DBPD officers found Troutman behind the wheel of a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser as it left a home on Forest Avenue and took him into custody based off of an arrest warrant signed by 7th Circuit Judge Frank Marriott.

That warrant – signed by Judge Marriott on July 21st – shows Troutman was wanted on the charges of conspiracy to sell and deliver marijuana and using a communications device to commit a felony.

Officers found a “green leafy substance” in a plastic bag in one of Troutman’s pants pockets while doing a pat-down search after he was placed in handcuffs, per the report.

A search of the car also turned up a black bag on the passenger side floor board that had a glass jar and another plastic bag filled with what DBPD suspected was marijuana. Those suspicions were confirmed with test kits done on scene, per the report.

The report noted that Troutman had just over 5 grams of marijuana in his possession with a street value of around $100.

Troutman was a football star at Daytona Beach’s Seabreeze High School before going to BCU in 1996, where he started 3 seasons at quarterback and led the program to a 24-9 record.

He ended his playing days as a pro in Canada and Germany after earning a tryout with the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers.

Prior to his hiring at Atlantic High, Troutman was an offensive coordinator at DeLand High School during the 2012 season.
