Volusia County, FL-Volusia County’s Beach Safety Division is gearing up for large crowds, moderate rip currents and scattered thunderstorms over Labor Day weekend. High tides will occur in the late afternoon, possibly forcing lifeguards to close the beach to vehicular traffic for several hours each day.

Beachgoers are encouraged to arrive early for easier access and be prepared to move their cars when the tide comes in. Lifeguards remind beachgoers that they should swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower and should not sit or lie between vehicles. Towers are open between 10am to 5:30pm every day this weekend.

Parents can pick up free RES-Q (Reuniting Everyone Safely and Quickly) bracelets at lifeguard towers and from beach safety officers. They can write their name and phone number on the bracelet before placing it on their child’s wrist. If the child gets displaced from family members, Beach Safety staff can use the phone number to contact the parents quickly. For more information contact Beach Safety headquarters 386-239-6414.
