Daytona Beach, FL – Investigators are trying to identify a dark-skinned man they believe is pretending to solicit money for a church.
The Daytona Beach Police Department released security video of that man walking along Mason Avenue around 11:30am Tuesday (September 15th). That video is posted above this article.
Officers say the man was stopping by several businesses along Mason and leaving flyers asking for money for children’s programs at Calvary Christian Church in Ormond Beach.
According to police, those flyers are fakes and they believe this man is also responsible for a similar scam in August 2013.
In the earlier case, DBPD planned to charge him with grand theft but were never able to establish his identity.
The suspect does not give a receipt nor does he leave any paperwork with his victims, per DBPD.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DBPD Detective Darrell Runge at 386-671-5242 or at runged@dbpd.us. Those who want to remain anonymous and possibly qualify for a cash reward can call Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS.
