Port Orange, FL – A 47-year-old man hospitalized last week while in police custody is dead.
The Port Orange Police Department says Randy Wilson died at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach just after midnight on Sunday.
“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is actively working this investigation as an in-custody incident,” said POPD Lieutenant Scott Brozio.
Wilson was arrested around 11pm Tuesday (September 15th) by POPD during a traffic stop and charged with driving under the influence.
It was while Wilson was being processed at POPD headquarters when he “suffered a medical episode” and needed paramedics to take him to HHMC for treatment, according to Brozio.
“Port Orange [PD] Detectives responded to the scene and proceeded to notify FDLE in reference to the episode,” Brozio added. “FDLE responded and has taken the role of the primary investigating agency in this matter.”
Wilson was initially listed in critical condition.
No other details have been released by POPD on the case.
