Bunnell, FL – A Palm Coast man is dead after he was ejected from his sport utility vehicle and the vehicle landed on top of him.
Tyler M. Tracy died just before 1am Saturday along US 1 near the County Road 304 intersection.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the 21-year-old was driving a white 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe north on US 1 with another man in the passenger seat when the vehicle went left into the median and then swerved off the roadway, crashing into a utility pole.
The impact threw Tracy – who was not wearing a seat belt – out of the vehicle and then the vehicle rolled onto its left side, pinning Tracy underneath, per the FHP accident report.
Tracy died on scene, while his passenger – 22-year-old Michael G. Neves of Palm Coast – wasn’t hurt, according to troopers.
The report noted that Neves was wearing a seat belt and that he had been drinking just prior to the crash. An autopsy is pending to determine if Tracy was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
Troopers aren’t sure at this point what caused the vehicle to drift into the median.
Charges are pending at this time, according to FHP.
