Osteen, FL – A 35-year-old Sanford man is dead in a collision that shut down Osteen Maytown Road early Friday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened around 6:15am on Osteen Maytown near Azalea Lane.

FHP Sergeant Kim Montes says the victim – who has yet to be identified – was heading east on Osteen Maytown when he lost control of his 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and went down to the ground.

Troopers on scene believe a 2001 Ford sport utility vehicle driven by 20-year-old Joshua Garcia of DeBary was going westbound on Osteen Maytown when he spotted the motorcyclist heading to the ground and tried to swerve out of the way.

According to the accident report, however, Garcia wasn’t able to avoid in time and he hit the motorcycle and the motorcyclist with the front of the SUV, pinning the motorcyclist underneath the SUV.

FHP’s report also shows that a 2007 Dodge truck driven by 20-year-old Travis Larsen of Osteen rear-ended the Ford, causing the Dodge to go off the road and overturn into a ditch.

Larsen had minor injuries in the crash, while Garcia had none, according to troopers on scene.

FHP believes that drugs or alcohol weren’t a factor in the crash.

The report shows that Larsen and Garcia were wearing seat belts and that the motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Charges are pending at this time, per FHP.
