Port Orange, FL – An Orange City retiree is out on bond after deputies say she pointed a gun at another woman while driving near Port Orange.
54-year-old Wannetta J. Bailey has posted $1,500 bond on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge, according to the Volusia County Jail website.
Bailey was arrested by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office around 4pm Wednesday near the intersection of County Road 415/Tomoka Farms Road and Taylor Road.
According to the charging affidavit, a 20-year-old Port Orange woman told VCSO she was driving east on Taylor approaching the Tomoka Farms intersection when a woman driving a black Jeep Wrangler started tailgating her.
The woman claims there was another vehicle in front of her pulling a trailer that was driving below the speed limit, so she couldn’t go any faster than what she already was.
Per the affidavit, the woman held her hands out the window to get the driver of the Wrangler – since identified as Bailey by VCSO – to not follow her so closely.
It was soon after the woman turned south on Tomoka Farms when she claims Bailey pulled alongside her, opened a case in her vehicle, pulled out a small gray handgun and pointed it at her.
The woman called deputies for help after pulling into her neighborhood near Tomoka Farms while the Wrangler continued south towards Pioneer Trail, according to the affidavit.
A deputy found the Wrangler soon afterward heading west on State Road 44 and pulled it over, per VCSO.
When questioned, Bailey denied at first that she was involved in any sort of road rage argument but admitted later on that she had been after a passenger in her car told deputies what he saw, according to the affidavit.
Bailey was arrested after the woman identified her as the one who pointed a gun at her even though Bailey insisted she never used the gun that was stored in the center console of her Jeep.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
VCJ’s website shows Bailey was previously arrested in March 2006 but didn’t have the charges available.
