10-19 I-95 detour

New Smyrna Beach, FL – Part of Interstate 95 in Volusia County is about to shut down as part of the ongoing $255 million widening project.

The Florida Department of Transportation plans to close the State Road 44/Canal Street eastbound exit from I-95 southbound starting at 8pm Monday.

FDOT spokeswoman Jessica Keane says they plan to re-open the exit at 5am Tuesday, but will have to repeat the process Tuesday night going into Wednesday morning.

“This closure will allow for necessary drainage construction work,” Keane added. “Detour signage [will be] in place.”

I-95 southbound drivers will be told to take the westbound SR 44 exit, take a right on SR 44 and do a U-turn if they want to go eastbound on SR 44.

Inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances could delay or prolong work, according to Keane.

Lane Construction Corporation is working on widening an over 12 mile stretch of I-95 from 4 lanes to 6 from Daytona Beach south to New Smyrna Beach. It’s the last part of I-95 in Florida that’s 4 lanes or less.
