Daytona Beach, FL – Investigators now know the identity of the man who allegedly dressed up like a priest and tried to lure a boy into a van on beachside earlier this month.
The Daytona Beach Police Department is refusing to identify the man at this time or release any other information on the case, according to a press release posted on the department’s website Saturday morning.
It all started around 2:30pm on October 6th when DBPD says a man dressed as a Catholic priest tried to lure a 10-year-old into a van while the boy was walking home from school on the 400 block of North Halifax Avenue.
Officers said at the time that the man was Hispanic and driving a silver Honda Odyssey while wearing a clerical shirt and collar.
The boy described the man as in his 30’s and said the man told him he could trust him, according to the incident report.
The vehicle was last seen heading north on Halifax and had a specialty license plate, per witnesses.
Some of those witnesses claim they tried to follow the van but could not.
The child was not hurt.
Anyone with information is asked to call DBPD at 386-671-5100.
