Daytona Beach, FL – Twin sisters are behind bars for robbing a Daytona Beach convenience store at gunpoint.
24-year-olds Kayla & Kristi Bergeron were arrested Tuesday night by the Daytona Beach Police Department, minutes after a robbery was reported at the Food Mart on North Beach Street.
DBPD says the Bergerons entered the store around 6pm and approached the register a few minutes later with a 20-ounce bottle of ginger ale, setting it on the counter.
Per the report, Kayla then put her hand in her pocket and ordered the cashier to open the register, saying she had a gun.
The cashier told DBPD Kayla pulled out a small handgun and pointed it at him when he asked her if she was kidding, at which point he opened the register.
The Bergerons left the store with the ginger ale after Kristi allegedly took $230 in cash from the register, leaving the scene in a black Volkswagon Beetle.
A DBPD officer spotted the Beetle on Railway Street near the FEC railroad tracks a few minutes later and pulled it over, taking the Bergerons into custody.
Officers did not find a gun while processing the scene for evidence but did find the stolen cash and the ginger ale bottle, according to the report.
As of 2:30pm Wednesday, Kayla is held at Volusia County Jail on $5,000 bond on an armed robbery charge. Kristi is also facing the same charge, but her bond is set at $20,000.
According to the arrest report, Kayla is a Daytona Beach resident and Kristi lives in Portland, Oregon.
