Daytona Beach, FL – A Port Orange man with a long arrest record is back in jail for shoving a baby boy’s head into a door.
34-year-old Brent J. Horvath was arrested around 3pm Thursday on a child abuse charge and is held without bond at Volusia County Jail as of 2pm Friday.
The Daytona Beach Police Department says Horvath’s arrest came following a domestic incident somewhere in the city on Thursday. The exact location was redacted from the arrest report.
According to that arrest report, Horvath’s live-in girlfriend told DBPD she got into a verbal argument with Horvath and it was during that argument when Horvath shoved the 7-month-old boy’s head into a door.
The baby was crying and had redness, abrasions and bumps on his head when officers got on scene, per the report. Paramedics took the child to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment.
The report indicates that Horvath was trying to kick his 33-year-old girlfriend and her baby out of a room. It also noted that he wasn’t the child’s biological father and that he had been living with his girlfriend and her child for the past 3 weeks.
Horvath was arrested after a 62-year-old witness confirmed his girlfriend’s story, per the report. The names of the witness and Horvath’s girlfriend were redacted.
The Department of Children & Families has been notified, per DBPD.
VCJ records show Horvath’s been booked there 19 other times since April 2001, including 3 times since January.
