Deltona, FL – A pair of Deltona residents are in custody for a crime spree that saw over $25,000 in items stolen and pawned from local homes and landscape trailers.
27-year-old Jason G. Nesbitt and 24-year-old Kristina Whitrock were arrested on Friday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says investigators tied the pair to nearly 12 break-ins throughout Deltona in the past month, including the home where Nesbitt’s parents lived.
“In late September, Nesbitt’s parents told deputies [that] Nesbitt broke into their home and stole his mother’s jewelry and his father’s tools,” Gant noted. “The family initially decided not to pursue charges, instead giving Nesbitt a chance to rehabilitate himself.”
That opportunity was squandered 2 weeks later when Nesbitt’s father found a guest bedroom window broken and a concrete saw missing from the garage, per Gant.
“Sheriff’s investigators began gathering evidence that would ultimately link Nesbitt and Whitrock to that case and others, most of which involved the theft of tools and lawn equipment,” Gant added. “In one case, the stolen items included 57 watches with a total estimated value of $25,000, plus a handgun, an xBox 360 and a camera.”
VCSO thinks Nesbitt and Whitrock did their break-ins during the day and then pawned the stolen goods at stores in 3 different counties. About $7,000 of those goods have since been recovered, according to Gant.
Whitrock and Nesbitt were booked at Volusia County Jail on charges of burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and providing false ownership information for pawned items. Both are held on $60,000 bond as of 5pm Friday.
VCJ records show Nesbitt’s been booked there 6 other times since July 2012 while Whitrock was previously booked a month ago. The charges in those cases weren’t made available on the VCJ website.
