Daytona Beach, FL – A customer grabbed a burglary suspect after he crashed through the ceiling of the Hibachi Grill on West ISB in Daytona Beach Tuesday. 30-year-old Justin Grimes was held until police could get there after he fell into the restaurant filled with diners around 6:15 PM.
The store manager told police ceiling tiles had been disturbed in his office and was on the phone to dispatch when Grimes fell through the ceiling in the restaurant. The suspect took off running but was tackled and held by a customer. A pair of flip-flops were found in the office and Grimes, according to the police report, asked officers where his flip-flops were.
The business is at 1320 W. ISB.
Grimes had bruises and lacerations and was taken by EVAC to Halifax Hospital for treatment.
The restaurant manager told police it appeared Grimes had gotten into the ceiling through the bathroom ceiling in the men’s room.
Grimes is at the Volusia County Branch Jail charged with burglary of an occupied structure and was being held on $2500 bond.
