Ormond Beach, FL – A South Daytona man convicted for vandalizing the vehicle of a prosecutor over a decade ago is arrested for doing the same to a vehicle belonging to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
William E. Morris was arrested at his Boston Avenue home around 2pm Thursday, according to the Ormond Beach Police Department.
OBPD Officer Keith Walker says Morris is facing a felony charge for the vandalizing as well as charges of resisting arrest and fleeing & eluding after he tried to run away when police found him near his home.
“Morris intentionally went onto the residential property of a VCSO deputy and slashed 2 tires [on] the [deputy’s] personal vehicle with a sharp object,” Walker added. “A neighbor’s home security system captured the crime.”
Officers who were familiar with Morris identified him as the culprit based on the video footage from that October 27th incident, per Walker.
The 44-year-old could also face additional charges for the recent vandalization of another Assistant State Attorney’s vehicle 5 days earlier.
Morris is a suspect in numerous open cases where the personal vehicles of law enforcement officers throughout Volusia County were vandalized, per Walker.
Morris was convicted in 2004 for vandalizing an Assistant State Attorney’s vehicle after that person prosecuted Morris in court for an unrelated crime.
Volusia County Jail records show Morris has been booked there 8 other times since September 2001. Charges in those cases weren’t made available on the VCJ website.
As of 6pm Thursday, Morris is held on $22,500 bond at VCJ.
