DeLand, FL-The Volusia County School Board unanimously approved a new school calendar last night after much discussion. The calendar will have student back in class August 15 and the last class will be on May 26.
Trying to overhaul the calendar ended with one board member voting “yes, with regret”. The calendar next year includes a shorter winter and summer break.
Volusia County Schools spokeswoman Nancy Wait detailed a long committee process on drawing the calendar and, though not all agreed, she said the majority backed the calendar as it was presented last night.
The second semester will be 16 instructional days longer than the first semester.
The meeting also discussed a possible school uniform policy for all students and board members weighed in on options last night. A policy is expected to be presented to the board during a December meeting.
