The United States Coast Guard responded to the Carnival Pride around 90 nautical miles east of Daytona after getting the call for help around 11:30pm Friday.
USCG Lieutenant Trent Meyers said the woman had severe chronic abdominal pain and an aircrew based in Savannah airlifted her in an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“We really appreciate the professionalism of the crew,” Meyers added. “They made sure the patient was on deck and ready when we arrived on scene and gave us the support necessary to safely expedite the mission.”
Meyers added that they had to deal with some “unforeseen turbulence” but didn’t go into detail as to what that was.
USCG has not released an update on the woman’s condition or her identity.
