DeLand, FL – A 72-year-old man is dead and 2 others are in serious condition following a 3-vehicle wreck near DeLand over the weekend.
Richard Marino died at the scene just after 9:30pm Friday on US 92/International Speedway Boulevard near Marsh Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol says Marino was driving a 2015 Kia Optima eastbound on US 92 when he tried to make a left turn onto Marsh and went right into the path of a 1997 Ford van going westbound on US 92.
Troopers believe the front of the van hit the Kia’s front right side, pushing it into a 2004 Nissan Sentra that was also going west on US 92.
Paramedics took the driver of the van – 74-year-old Walter Guy of Tavares – to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach in serious condition. A passenger in the van – 73-year-old Constance Guy of Tavares – also went to HHMC in serious condition. FHP Sergeant Kim Montes says they are husband and wife.
28-year-old Anthony Breeze of South Carolina – the driver of the Sentra – had minor injuries, according to the FHP accident report.
The crash remains under investigation, but FHP says alcohol nor drugs appeared to be a factor. It also noted that everyone was wearing seat belts except Marino and the passenger of the Ford van.
