Daytona Beach, FL – A candidate for the United States House of Representatives seat that’s about to be vacated by Ron DeSantis is tapping the breaks on her campaign.

Former US Congresswoman Sandy Adams posted on her Facebook account the day before Thanksgiving that she’s reconsidering her run for the 6th Congressional District due to health.

“I recently discovered a significant health issue that demands my focus and attention,” Adams wrote. “Over the next several weeks, I will be focusing on my health and will reassess my campaign to determine if I can give it a 100% commitment.”

The Republican did not release any other details on the health issue.

The 6th Congressional District covers all of Flagler and most of Volusia as well as parts of other Florida counties, including Putnam and St. Johns.

Adams – who lost her place in Capitol Hill to District 7’s John Mica during the 2012 Republican primary election – was the most experienced of the candidates vying to replace DeSantis as he goes for the US Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio as part of his White House run.

The New Smyrna Beach resident was initially elected to the US House of Representatives in 2008 after serving in the Florida House of Representatives for 8 years but was forced to face off against Mica when district lines were re-drawn.

Remaining in the race on the GOP side are Ormond Beach realtor GG Galloway and former New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer.

For the Democrats, Port Orange resident Richard P. Dembinsky is running and current Daytona Beach state representative Dwayne Taylor has also announced a run for DeSantis’ seat. The former Daytona Beach City Commissioner is term-limited in the state House.

Taylor initially declared that he would run for Volusia County Council Chairman before changing his mind and going for DeSantis’ seat. That leaves just 2 candidates for VCC Chairman in 2016: incumbent Jason Davis and Orange City Mayor Tom Laputka.
