Deltona, FL – Deputies take a Deltona woman into custody for physically attacking her son after he told her he supports Donald Trump for President of the United States.
62-year-old Susanne M. Manno was arrested around 10:15 PM Sunday at her Loblolly Street home. As of 4 PM Monday, she remains in Volusia County Jail on a battery charge.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says Manno’s 41-year-old son – who lives with her – called deputies for help from a RaceTrac gas station on Howland Boulevard in Deltona around 6 PM Sunday.
According to the arrest report, Manno’s son told deputies he was in the living room along with his fiancee, his 14-year-old son and a family friend when his mom grabbed a hold of his head and started punching and slapping him in the face after he made his comment about Trump.
Manno’s husband – also the father of the victim – came in from the yard to break up the fight, at which point Manno went into the kitchen and armed herself with a sheathed kitchen knife, per the report.
Manno’s son claims he grabbed some clothes and left the home at that point with his fiancee and son. He also told VCSO there’s been several acts of domestic violence between him and his parents in the past that weren’t reported to law enforcement.
The report noted that Manno’s son wanted to press charges against her and that he had a “visible injury” on his right cheek underneath the eye. He refused medical treatment, per deputies.
When questioned, Manno told deputies her son was “pestering her about random events that occurred throughout the day” and that he “continued to harp and barrage her with mindless conversation about politics” and other issues, according to the report.
She claims in the report that her son followed her from the living room into the kitchen after she asked him to leave her alone and that he continued to “harass and pester” even after she shoved him away from her “personal space” in the kitchen.
The report also noted that Manno admitted to having a kitchen knife in her hand but that she was using it to prepare food and that she didn’t threaten anyone with it, including her son.
Several witnesses backed up each account, with Manno’s husband telling VCSO his son is “constantly harassing his mother” and “arguing with everyone in the household”, per the report.
In the 911 call, Manno’s son told dispatchers he was afraid because he was a convicted felon on probation and that would be enough to send him to jail even though he was the victim. He was not charged.
