Daytona Beach, FL - A 61-year-old Orlando woman is dead in a traffic accident the day after Christmas.
The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened around 10 AM Saturday on US 92/International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.
FHP Lieutenant Christopher Sorvillo says the dead driver – yet to be identified – was going the wrong way in the inside westbound lane on US 92 when her 2002 Toyota Corolla went head-on into a 2012 Volkswagon Beetle that was going the right way.
“After impact, [the Corolla] overturned and came to final rest on the north shoulder,” Sorvillo added. “[The Beetle] came to final rest in the center median.”
The driver of the Corolla died on scene, according to troopers.
2 people in the Beetle – 33-year-old Rachael Horne and 37-year-old Rebecca Horne, both of Daytona Beach – were taken by paramedics to Halifax Health Medical Center in serious condition.
FHP says all 3 people were wearing seat belts and that none of them appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Westbound traffic on US 92 was briefly closed as troopers processed the scene for the investigation.
