Daytona Beach Shores, FL – An elderly woman is in the hospital as police search for the man who attacked her on the street as she walked her dog.
It happened around 12:45 PM Tuesday near the Colony Villas on 3750 South Atlantic Avenue, according to the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety.
DBS Police Sergeant Mike Fowler says the victim – a 71-year-old woman – was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach by paramedics following the attack.
“The female victim reported that she was walking her dog when a stranger ran up to her, struck her in the head with an unknown object, then fled south on foot,” Fowler added. “The man was last seen running west toward Cardinal Boulevard.”
A search perimeter was set up with a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, but officers haven’t been able to find the suspect, per Fowler.
“The victim stated that the male never spoke to her and made no attempt to take anything,” Fowler noted. “She did not know what motivated him to attack her.”
The suspect was described as a thin dark-skinned male in his 20’s with short curly hair and a scar on the left side of his face. He’s facing battery charges once caught.
