DeBary, FL – The week-long search for a missing DeBary man ends in tragedy at a private marina on the St. Johns River.
The body of 42-year-old Walter McKinnon was found around 2 PM Friday at the Meadowlea on the River mobile home community on South Leisure World Drive.
VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson says a man on a fishing dock spotted the body, leading to VCSO sending out a team of divers on a boat to retrieve the body and bring it back to shore.
“McKinnon – who went by his middle name, Devon – was reported missing on Monday,” Davidson added. “His family hadn’t seen him since Sunday night.”
VCSO’s Major Case Unit is actively investigating McKinnon’s death, per Davidson.
Family members told VCSO McKinnon left his Oak Tree Drive home around 10:30 PM Sunday to go to a friend’s house in DeBary.
Deputies say the residents of that home claim McKinnon left around 11:30 PM and never returned, even though he said he’d be right back.
