Deltona, FL – A 23-year-old Orange City man is locked up for sexually battering a Deltona woman after authorities say he and others broke into her home nearly 6 years ago.
Jamedd L. Ross was arrested Tuesday morning after leaving court in a separate criminal case, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says investigators got a confession from Ross in that March 2010 case after a fingerprint matched to him was found at the scene.
“The home invasion occurred in the early-morning hours of March 28, 2010,” Gant stated. “The victim – a 40-year-old woman – was sleeping in her Deltona home [when] multiple unknown suspects came into the house and tied her down.”
According to the victim, one of the suspects sexually battered her while the others took cash and a television from the home. She was also punched in the mouth and had a knife held to her chest during the incident, per Gant.
“Investigators processed the scene and collected evidence, but with no leads, the case was suspended 6 months later,” Gant added. “The case was reopened in February 2015 when a Sheriff’s Office fingerprint technician matched a print from the house to Ross.”
DNA evidence found at the scene also confirmed that Ross was there at the time of the attack, according to investigators.
Ross is facing charges of armed robbery with a weapon, sexual battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping with intent to harm or terrorize.
Volusia County Jail records show Ross has been booked there 7 other times since May 2010, most recently in July 2015 on charges of drug possession, fleeing & eluding and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
VCSO investigators are still trying to find the other men involved in that incident.
