Bunnell, FL –  Officials lift the boil water order for over 1,700 utility customers in a community near Bunnell after vandals allegedly drained hundreds of thousands of gallons of treated water last weekend.

Flagler County canceled the notice for Plantation Bay water system just after 2 PM Thursday, 4 days after discovering that 400,000 gallons were drained in an apparent act of vandalism.

County spokeswoman Julie Murphy says the water has passed all the tests and is now safe to use as normal.

“The notice was issued Monday after vandals [tampered] with about 20 water lines on private lots in the largely undeveloped Plantation Reserve Estates,” Murphy added. “This caused the water pressure to drop at the Plantation Bay Water and Wastewater facility.”

County General Services Director Heidi Petito said the boil water notice was precautionary and also required when water pressure drops below a certain level.

So much water had drained that some customers reported getting no water at all or barely a trickle, according to Murphy.

The county sent out a CodeRED alert to all affected customers soon after the problem was spotted.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with information can call FCSO at 386-437-4116.
