Daytona Beach, FL – More airline passengers are caught with guns in their carry-on bags than ever before.

The Transportation Security Administration reports that 2,653 firearms were caught in airport security screening lines nationwide in 2015. That’s a 20% increase over the previous year’s total of 2,212.

Over 80% of the guns found were loaded, per TSA officials.

3 of those firearms were found at Daytona Beach International Airport, including a disassembled .22 caliber where the grip and firing pin were found inside a shaving kit in a carry-on bag. The frame and the cylinder were both in a checked bag, per TSA. A picture of that gun (courtesy TSA) is posted above this article.

5 guns were discovered at the DBIA security screening line in 2014, according to TSA spokeswoman Sari Koshetz.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport had the most guns found at American airports in 2015 with 153, one of 5 Texas-based airports in the Top 10.

Coming in second was by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at 144 and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston was 3rd with 100.

Denver International Airport (90), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (73), Nashville International Airport (59) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (59) make up the middle of the Top 10.

3 Texas airports – Dallas’ Love Field (57), Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (54) and William P. Hobby Airport in Houston (52) – round out the Top 10.

All the guns mentioned in this list had not been declared by the passengers prior to arrival at the airport, per TSA.
