Daytona Beach, FL – A Port Orange man gets the maximum possible penalty allowed under law for having and posting child porn online.
40-year-old David Allen Hall was sentenced to 825 years in state prison during a hearing on Wednesday in front of 7th Circuit Judge Leah Case.
“The defendant is a sexual menace who has preyed upon children as young as four years old,” said 7th Circuit State Attorney RJ Larizza following the hearing. “His penchant for sexual violence and his preference for young and defenseless children calls for the most severe punishment the law allows.”
Hall was convicted last June by a Volusia County jury on 55 counts of possessing child pornography following a 2-day trial.
Jurors took over 2 hours to deliberate before finding Hall – a former cook at Red Robin in Port Orange – guilty, according to Larizza spokesman Spencer Hathaway.
“All 55 counts are classified as second-degree felonies because there were more than 10 images and the graphic nature of the images,” Hathaway added.
Hathaway also noted that Hall will not be eligible for parole.
Hall was arrested by the Daytona Beach Police Department in June 2014 after investigators say he posted images of naked boys on Tumblr using accounts he hadn’t registered with his probation officer following his release from prison in 2012.
Court records show Hall was previously convicted of attempted lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor in 1996 and was a registered sex offender prior to his June 2014 arrest by DBPD. That required him to register any email address or online screen names he used with authorities.
The DBPD investigation started with a “CyberTip” to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to his arrest report.
Police say Hall admitted to having multiple Facebook accounts and eventually confessed to having the photos on his computer after first denying knowledge of them.
