DeLand, FL – A 14-year-old DeLand High School student is Baker Acted after telling police he was joking when he threatened to “shoot up” the school.
A DeLand Police Department was called out to the campus on 800 North Hill Avenue around 5:45 AM Monday to investigate.
Chris Graham – a Community Information Specialist with the City of DeLand – says the boy told officers he wasn’t actually planning on shooting up the school after he reportedly made some statements to friends last Thursday. Those statements were redacted from the incident report.
Also redacted were statements the boy may to someone else on Friday, but those statements convinced DeLand PD to take the boy into custody at his home on Monday via the Baker Act.
The 14-year-old was transported to Halifax Behavioral Services Center, per the report.
Officers were sent to the campus to make sure there was no immediate threat, per Graham.
