DeLand, FL – The Volusia County Council shoots down a new proposal to give money for a proposed homeless shelter to be owned and operated by the City of Daytona Beach.
By a 4-3 vote at Thursday’s meeting, the VCC denied the motion from District 2 Representative Josh Wagner to give the city $3 million dollars for the building to be used for Safe Harbor and $2 million in operation costs over 5 years.
Chairman Jason Davis and 3 other VCC Representatives – District 3’s Deb Denys, District 4’s Doug Daniels and District 5’s Fred Lowry – were the “no” votes. Wagner was joined on the losing side by District 1’s Pat Patterson and At-Large Representative Joyce Cusack.
The discussion came during closing comments at the end of Thursday’s meeting, the first in the newly renovated County Council chambers.
More details coming soon.
