Daytona Beach, FL – Investigators want your help to find a man they think stole nearly $10,000 in sunglasses from at least 2 stores.
The Daytona Beach Police Department released security video Thursday of the suspect in several shoplifting incidents at 2 Sunglass Hut locations in the city. That video is posted above this article.
The latest incident happened around 4:15 PM Sunday (January 31st) at the Sunglass Hut location in Ocean Walk Shoppes, according to DBPD.
A clerk at the store told officers that a white man wearing a gray short-sleeve shirt over a long-sleeve black shirt and blue jeans came into the store and slipped 2 pairs of Gucci sunglasses into his right front pants pocket.
The suspect – who was also wearing black flip-flops and wire frame glasses – left the store on foot heading towards the Daytona Beach Boardwalk. Officers from DBPD and Volusia County Beach Safety weren’t able to find him in the area during a search soon after the theft was reported.
The man – who has short wiry hair and some facial hair – is around 6 feet tall, weighs around 170 pounds and is believed to be in his mid 20’s or mid 30’s, according to the incident report.
The pair of glasses the man stole are valued at between $200 and $400 a pair, per the report.
DBPD thinks the same man entered the Sunglass Hut store in Volusia Mall on January 19th and stole at least 6 pairs of sunglasses with a combined value of over $2,000. The report in that incident shows 3 Guccis taken along with 2 Pradas and a Rayban.
Detectives think he may also be responsible for at least 5 other shoplifting incidents at both stores. That includes the theft of 3 more pairs of sunglasses – a Tiffany, a Gucci and a Prada – from the Volusia Mall location on January 29th. Those pairs have a combined value of around $1,100.
Employees at both locations have been told to keep an eye out for the man and to call police if he enters either store again, per the report.
Anyone with information is urged to call DBPD Detective Scott Frantz at 386-671-5247 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477 to remain anonymous and possibly qualify for a cash reward.
