Astor, FL – A 46-year-old woman is dead and 3 other Astor residents are hurt in a rollover crash near DeLeon Springs State Park.
The Florida Highway Patrol says Mary Hernandez died at the scene around 6 PM Saturday on US 17 at the Dawson Brown Road intersection.
Troopers think Hernandez was driving a 2000 Ford sport utility vehicle northbound on US 17 when it left the road for some reason and overturned, throwing her out of the vehicle. Investigators aren’t sure what caused the vehicle to lose control.
4 people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. 2 of them – 45-year-old George Shiver and 28-year-old Johnathan Vaughan – had minor injuries and went to Halifax Health Medical Center. Another passenger – 29-year-old Amber Lou Miller – went to HHMC in serious condition.
The final passenger – 32-year-old Billy Walters of DeLeon Springs – wasn’t hurt, according to the accident report.
Other than Miller and Shiver, no one else was wearing seatbelts, according to troopers at the scene.
Investigators think none of the passengers had alcohol or drugs in their systems. An autopsy is pending on Hernandez to see if she had alcohol or drugs in her system.
