DeLand, FL – No injuries are reported after the parachute of a soldier on a training exercise got caught in power lines just southeast of DeLand Municipal Airport.

First responders from the DeLand Fire Department and Volusia County Fire Services were called to the scene near Yorktown Street and Ranger Avenue around 9 AM Monday.

A Florida Highway Patrol dispatcher called for help saying that the parachutist got stuck on power lines near the Eagle Lodge on the 1300 block of Yorktown Drive. That’s near the Ranger Avenue intersection and close to the FHP station in DeLand.

Duke Energy had to shut down power in the area before the 33-year-old male soldier could be freed from the power lines by paramedics and utility workers.
