Palm Coast, FL – It’s about to get real cold in north and central Florida as a front coming in could put parts of Flagler and Volusia counties in a freeze.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville issued a Freeze Warning for all of Flagler County from 3 AM Wednesday to 9 AM Wednesday. There’s also a Wind Advisory for Flagler until 6 PM Tuesday.

The NWS office in Melbourne has Volusia under a Wind Chill Advisory from 4 AM Wednesday until 9 AM Wednesday. There’s also a Wind Advisory in place until 6 PM Tuesday and a high risk of rip currents on the beachside through at least 5 PM Tuesday.

Meteorologists are calling for steady winds of 20 to 25 miles per hour in Flagler through Wednesday morning, with gusts up to 40 MPH. That will make temperatures feel like lower 20’s through the overnight, especially inland.

Actual temperatures in Flagler are expected to hover around the freezing mark overnight for coastal areas and in the upper 20’s for the inland areas.

Winds in Volusia are likely going to be stronger than in Flagler, at least during Tuesday afternoon. NWS is calling for a steady 20 to 25 MPH breeze from the west and wind gusts up to 40 MPH.

Expect the wind to drop to around 10 to 15 MPH overnight as the northern parts of Volusia could see wind chill levels in the upper 20’s.

Lows in Volusia are expected to stay just above freezing overnight into Wednesday, with most of the county likely to stay in the mid 30’s, according to NWS.

Forecasters do think it’ll drop below freezing on Wednesday night for parts of north Volusia – especially inland – before warming up slightly for the rest of the week.

NWS has a Freeze Watch in place starting late Wednesday night into Thursday morning for Flagler as temperatures will likely fall below freezing for the entire county. Volusia is not under a Freeze Watch at this time.

Authorities suggest bringing inside any plants and pets to shelter them from the cold and to secure anything that might be blown away by wind gusts.

Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to stay between the low to mid 50’s in both counties.
