Holly Hill, FL – Holly Hill authorities have reunited a disabled man’s dog with the owner after the dog escaped from the home of a caretaker.

Police say Poupee (said poo-pay) was nabbed by officers after a 30-minute foot chase Thursday. The dog belongs to New Smyrna Beach resident Kevin Young. He is a quadriplegic who had surgery last month. Young’s LPN agreed to watch the dog at her home in Holly Hill. At some point, the dog escaped and was on the run for about a month.

Young put the dog’s photo on Facebook via Volusia County Lost and Found Pets. The operator of that site got in touch with HHPD and the police department send out a mass email to city employees to be on the lookout. Thursday, a city employee spotted the dog matching Poupee’s description in the 800 block of Daytona Avenue. Lt. Christopher Yates led a group of officers on the recovery effort and was able to chase the dog down.

Poupee was taken to “Bark, Bath and Beyond” for a complimentary makeover and the reunited with Young in New Smyrna Beach.

Poupee is a male poodle/cocker spaniel mix.
