Daytona Beach, FL – A World Wrestling Entertainment champion will be on the track for next weekend’s Daytona 500.
WWE star and actor John Cena will be the Honorary Pace Car Driver for the 58th annual version of the Great American Race when it’s run at 1 PM on February 21st.
Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said Cena will lead the 43-car field to the green flag in a Toyota Camry.
“John Cena is one of the most iconic WWE Superstars in history, a great actor and philanthropist,” Chitwood added. “We welcome him back to the World Center of Racing and our new motorsports stadium.”
Cena has won 15 WWE heavyweight belts and will be hosting a new reality series on FOX called American Grit where contestants work together to complete a variety of military-grade and survival-themed challenges. The show premieres on April 14th.
He’s also starred recently on the big screen in the Golden Globe-nominated “Trainwreck” and “Sisters” as well as an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His granting of more than 500 wishes is more than any other celebrity or athlete in the history of the organization.
This year’s Daytona 500 is the first since DIS wrapped up its $400 million renovation last month.
