Flemingsburg, KY – The Tomoka State Prison inmate who escaped while on work release over 2 weeks ago is caught in Kentucky.
24-year-old Gary W. Bullock Jr. is now in custody after a United States Marshals Task Force found him in the town of Flemingsburg around 3:30 PM Friday.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant says federal agents also found 24-year-old Natasha Quigley – Bullock’s girlfriend – and her 3-year-old son Xander Quigley with Bullock.
“All are safe with no injuries to report,” Gant added. “Xander is in protective custody until arrangements are made to place him in the care of family.”
Authorities issued a Missing Child Alert for Xander on January 26th, the day after his mother helped Bullock escape while he was on work release at a Daytona Beach Shores hotel.
The Florida Department of Corrections issued an escape notice for Bullock on the night of January 25th, hours after he fled from his job as a maintenance man at the El Caribe Resort & Conference Center.
VCSO says Bullock was staying at the Community Release Center as part of the work release program.
Authorities think he was picked up at work by Natasha – a Bunnell resident – and both then fled the area with Xander in her white 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, but not before Bullock cut off his ankle monitor at the parking lot of the hotel and left it there.
The couple also reportedly had money, blank checks and a gun that Natasha allegedly stole from her parents’ home in Palm Coast just before she fled with Bullock.
FDOC records show Bullock was convicted in Flagler County in 2010 on 7 different charges, all of them related to robbery, grand theft, burglary, drug possession and criminal mischief. He was in the middle of serving an 8-year prison sentence.
Bullock now faces charges of escape, destruction of an electronic monitor and criminal mischief. Quigley faces a charge of aiding escape. More charges are expected, per Gant.
