DeLand, FL – A DeLand man is out of Volusia County Jail after police say he repeatedly called emergency dispatchers to talk about Adolf Hitler and Jews because he was bored.
28-year-old Michael S. Gilman was arrested by the DeLand Police Department around 1 AM Saturday and charged with misuse of the 911 system.
Gilman called 911 at least 6 times and then hid from officers who were dispatched to a home on Becca Lane to investigate the phone calls, according to the arrest report.
One of those officers found Gilman while he was on the phone with a 911 operator and took him into custody at that point. That officer’s report noted Gilman telling the officer that he called the dispatcher because he was bored.
Officers say Gilman was warned the first time he called 911 to not call back unless he had an emergency but that he ignored that warning and called back at least 5 more times over a 5-hour period.
The audio of those 911 calls show that a man – presumably Gilman – was also asking dispatcher to throw people out of homes in order to “serve and protect” and that there was an emergency at the White House.
Gilman told dispatchers at one point that his emergency was being “poor” and not able to vote. He also hung up at least twice on dispatchers when they tried to transfer him to a non-emergency line.
