Daytona Beach, FL – A convicted child rapist serving a 25-year sentence at Tomoka State Prison is dead following a confrontation with a fellow inmate.
The Florida Department of Corrections announced on Thursday that Hans C. Anderson died the day before following an “inmate-on-inmate” altercation.
FDOC Director of Communications McKinley Lewis says the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was notified and has become the lead investigatory authority in this case,” Lewis stated. “The Florida Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office are proactively working with FDLE to provide investigatory assistance.”
Lewis also noted that there’s no other information available for release at this time since the case is open and active, including the name of the other inmate involved.
“The Department will employ all available resources to ensure that a thorough investigation is completed,” Lewis added.
The 58-year-old Anderson was convicted in 2008 of raping a 13-year-old girl in the basement of a Pinellas County church 10 years earlier.
