Daytona Beach, FL – A Port Orange woman on a charity bicycle ride is in critical condition and her riding partner was dead at the scene after both were hit by a motorist in Oklahoma. Bridget Anderson, 22, was riding in Oklahoma behind Patrick Wanninkof when both were hit. Both were riding as part of a “Bike & Build” event where riders go cross-country and help with affordable housing projects in cities and towns along the way. The accident happened early Thursday morning.
Wanninkof, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. Anderson was airlifted to Oklahoma University Medical Center in critical condition.
A statement released from Bike and Build said Oklahoma State Police indicated the vehicle driver said she was distracted by looking at her phone at the time of the crash.
