DeLand, FL – A DeLand company that added nearly 200 jobs to its call center last year is about to add 400 more.
Florida Governor Rick Scott’s office announced on Thursday that Frontier Communications Corporation will open a new office in DeLand, making a capital investment of approximately $2.5 million.
“The Frontier expansion provides quality jobs and bolsters the vitality of the north end of the city,” said DeLand Mayor Bob Apgar. “It is an increase in jobs of more than 425% in 9 years. Our city is pleased to have assisted in Frontier’s job growth and facility expansions and we look forward to continuing DeLand’s highly successful relationship with this leader in the telecommunications industry.”
The new 32,000 square-foot location is at the site of the old Food Lion supermarket on the northwest corner of North Woodland Boulevard and International Speedway Boulevard. That’s expected to open sometime this month.
As part of the project, CareerSource Florida offered Frontier performance-based grants for employee training through the Quick Response Training program.
“I am pleased to see that Frontier’s investments have contributed to their growth,” said Robin King, President and CEO of CareerSource Flagler Volusia. “CareerSource Flagler/Volusia has been engaged with Frontier Communications in their employee recruitment, hiring and development efforts since 2005. As they expand with this new business unit, our partnership will strengthen.”
Volusia County Council chairman Jason Davis applauded the news.
“Strengthening the Volusia County economy is one of the best ways we can ensure a better future for our citizens,” Davis added. “The County Council supported Frontier Communications’ decision to locate a new facility in Volusia County and we look forward to their continued growth.”
Formerly known as Citizens Communications, Frontier provides voice, broadband, satellite video, wireless internet data access, data security solutions, specialized bundles for small businesses and home offices and advanced business communication for residential customers, small businesses, home offices, major corporations and carriers in 28 states.
Frontier added 180 new jobs last year when expanding its call center location on South Woodland Boulevard and will soon employ around 1,500 Floridians, making it one of the state’s larger private employers.
